Position Description
TITLE: Director of Student and Family Ministries
PURPOSE: To plan, develop, and supervise a comprehensive program of Christian Education for children and adults. This is a part-time position and the salary is based upon 20 hours per week. Primary duties include Christian Education volunteer teacher recruitment and training, curriculum selection and preparation, and coordinating community-oriented outreach events for children, youth, and families. The ideal candidate is devoted to Jesus Christ, has a heart for evangelism, is very familiar with the challenges and life styles of today’s families with school-age children, and is very comfortable with communications technology and social media, and is theologically comfortable with an environment that is a friendly and diverse congregation.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Student and Family Ministries will work in partnership with the Pastor (full-time position) and Director of Youth Ministry (part-time position) to achieve the purpose of the position. The Director of Student and Family Ministries is ultimately accountable to the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church, but will be primarily in communication with the Personnel Committee regarding job responsibilities, compensation, and performance reviews.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a staff member of the Discipleship Committee, working in partnership with the chairperson of the committee to recruit committee members and to help achieve the committee objectives. Meet with the committee as needed and communicate the work of the committee to the Pastor, the Session, and the Congregation.
Recruit, train, and support teachers and leaders for the Discipleship Ministries of the church, including but not limited to adult small groups, student ministries, and Sunday morning children’s spiritual growth opportunities.
Organize and oversee a children’s worship program that occurs during the 10:30AM worship service on Sunday mornings.
Organize and oversee a Vacation Bible School program for grades pre-K through grade 6
Coordinate seasonal and special ministry events (Christmas, Easter, etc.)
In partnership with the Discipleship Committee, offer guidance regarding the annual Discipleship Committee budget.
Attend church staff, committee, and Session meetings as needed.
To aid in peer networking and resource/idea sharing, participate in Christian Education and/or Continuing Education events of Eastminster Presbytery.
