What will the Worship SErvice be Like?
Worship at Westminster is for all ages, so expect a worship service that adapts to the needs of multi-generations. There are children’s activities for little hands and comfortable seats for tired legs. You'll sit next to some folks who have been coming to church their whole lives and others who are walking into a church for the first time in maybe decades.
There are two mostly identical services at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m., although the 10:30 a.m. service includes the chancel choir. The service itself is an uncomplicated time, rooted in a traditional pattern of worship that includes music, singing, prayer, Bible reading, Christ-centered preaching, and occasionally the sacraments of baptism or holy communion. At its simplest, it's a time for sinners and saints to hear Good News, something we all need.
What should I wear?
We’re more interested in meeting you than with what you wear to church. Some dress up, some dress down. Whatever works for you, is great with us!
Will I be called out as a Guest?
No, we’re not going to call you out and make you wave, stand up, or dance! You will have an opportunity to fill out a CONNECTION CARD (see sample below) and place it in the offering plates during a part of the worship service. It’s a great way for us to get to know you.
What about my kids?
We are eager for children to learn that the church is a special place for them, where they belong, are loved, have friends, and find important service to do. We offer childcare for the youngest among us (infants through age 5) during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Students in grades 5 and older participate in the entire worship service. Children in grades 4 and younger may choose to exit with our children’s ministry volunteers immediately following the children’s message to participate in age-appropriate activities during the rest of the worship service. Important: Any parent who would like to accompany a child to children’s activities is always welcome to do so. If you prefer, your children are welcome to remain with you for the entire worship service. Please feel free to discuss with your children what is happening, and if they get a little noisy, please don’t feel out of place. Their squirms and giggles are signs of the life God has given them!
Is there something just for visitors and guests?
Yes! As a visitor or guest, you have the special opportunity to "Meet with the Pastor" on the periodically throughout the year. This event is held in the Parlor Room (it’s easy to find!) immediately after the 10:30 a.m. worship service. “Meet with the Pastor” is a casual “come as you are” event, geared especially towards visitors/guests who are interested in meeting the pastor, learning more about Westminster Presbyterian Church, considering church membership, and/or publicly professing their Christian faith through the sacrament of baptism. A church elder will also be in attendance to give you his or her view of the church from the perspective of a lay person (i.e. non pastor).
